Methodology & measured forecast accuracy
Updated June 21, 2026 from Copernicus satellite data — refreshed 4× per day.
We sample the AFAI (floating algae) index from Copernicus/NOAA satellites 4 times a day, pixel by pixel in front of each beach — not a regional average. A weighted daily correction and a beach memory (multi-day half-life) turn the satellite signal into the status you see on the map. The 7-day forecast combines persistence, wind and offshore sargassum-bank detection.
Our data is never hand-edited, never filtered for resorts, never deleted. Sources: Copernicus Marine, NOAA ERDDAP (AFAI), Open-Meteo.
Measured accuracy across our Caribbean network (published backtests): next-day status is correct 76% of the time (mean AFAI error 0.044), 3-day status 73%. Nobody else in this market publishes their forecast accuracy.
